Reading Goals for Students

  • Each week, students are recognized on the morning announcements for their accomplishments in Accelerated Reader.  For each quiz taken, the students will receive a certain number of points depending on complexity and vocabulary in the book.  Please go to AR Book Finder if you have any questions about what a book level is or how many points the book is worth.

Remember, just as with our pleasure reading, the student interest is always a factor when it comes to pleasure reading.  The Accelerated Reader quizzes are just a way for us to keep up with what the student is reading and comprehending.

The different levels that the students are recognized for are as follows, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 150, 200, 250, etc.  After they are recognized on the morning announcements and come to the media center for prizes, they will also be able to keep track of their levels outside of the media center on our AR bulletin board.

  • Each month, we will honor one student per grade level as AR Super Star of the Month and they will be recognized on the front windows of the media center.  This student will be recognized because they have earned the most AR points out of the whole grade level for the month with an 80% average or more.  There will also be one class from each grade level that will be awarded an Oscar to recognize them for the most AR points with an 80% average for the month in their grade level.

  • Each student will have a goal for the quarter as well.  These goals will correspond with their grade level and will follow the point goals with an 80% average or more as noted below.  If you reach your goal for the quarter, you will have an opportunity to "Spin the Prize Wheel" for posters, free books and other prizes.Colorful prize wheel on a table at a festive event with numbered segments.
