Central Avenue Elementary School

AVID Elementary develops communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, and study skills. 

AVID Elementary encourages students to learn how to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting. 

AVID Elementary emphasizes instruction that incorporates the WICOR components: Writing to learn, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to learn in all content areas. 

AVID Elementary encourages partnerships among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, families, and communities.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a research-based approach that provides resources, support, and strategies for teachers and students. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID Elementary is a component of the AVID College Readiness System and supports AVID's Mission and Vision to provide a model of success for all students that supports the progression from elementary through middle and high school to college and career readiness.
