Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a motivational tool that we use at Central Avenue Elementary to promote independent reading.  The more independent reading a child does, the better he or she gets at comprehension, understanding new vocabulary and understanding the world as a whole.

Each student will have a goal set for them at the beginning of the year so that they can feel successful each time they take an AR quiz.

Students will be recognized through the morning announcements each Friday as they reach certain point goals and they will also be able to see their growth through a bulletin board outside of the media center.

There will be prizes awarded to students that reach these goals.  Remember, as they continue to surpass these goals, their independent reading levels will go up higher and higher and they will begin to understand the true love of reading by choosing books that they love on their levels.

Please help us promote independent reading by having your child read at least 20 minutes a night, whether they read alone or to someone.

Goals for the year per student will be as follows (80% average or more):

Kindergarten students-20 points
1st grade students-40 points
2nd grade students-60 points
3rd grade students-80 points
4th grade students-110 points
5th grade students-120 points

Our school-wide goal for the year will be 20,000 points.
